Exec Board Elections
Elections are tomorrow!!!
Here is a quick review of the responsibilities of each position as written by the current members of the Executive Board to keep in mind when voting at tomorrow's meeting. Also remember that there will be an opportunity to write in a member of the club for a position at the meeting even if they were not nominated last week!
President:
"The responsibilities of the President are to hire and oversee all Merchandising Society teams, act as a liaison between the FIT Student Association and the Merchandising Society concerning club affairs, lead weekly meetings, and support the rest of the Executive Board as needed."
Vice President:
"The Vice President is responsible for planning the two corporate trips we take in the fall and spring semesters. I contact different companies we would be interested in visiting, and coordinate with them to see if a visit to their headquarters is possible. I organize the agenda with the company, and I plan out flight arrangements and accommodations for our visit. I also get to plan fun activities for us to do in our free time whenever we may be, from museum visits to sightseeing excursion. I am basically the Merchandising Society travel planner! I also assist [the President], [Secretary], and [Treasurer] in any housekeeping details that need to be taken care of within the club."
Secretary:
"As Secretary I have four main roles: Create weekly agendas, plan and attend community service events, write thank you notes for guest speakers, and tracking and recording members' attendance and points."
Treasurer:
"The Treasurer acts as a liaison between FITSA and the Merchandising Society concerning the maintenance of the Merchandising Society account and handles all finances for the club, including fundraising and handling team budgets and trip expenses."
Be sure to come to tomorrow's meetings to hear everyone's speeches and vote for next year's Exec Board!!!

The Weekender: April 25th - April 27th
Happy Weekend!!
We hope that you aren't stressing too much about final projects and exams yet!! Below are some ideas for what to do this weekend for a fun time. Enjoy, and don't forget that our club elections are this coming Tuesday!!
Dance Theatre of Harlem:
April 23–27
Jazz at Lincoln Center Rose Theater
Dance Theatre of Harlem's spring 2014 season is highlighted by a New York premiere of past-carry-forward, a piece that considers the legacy of the Great Migration and the Harlem Renaissance. The two programs, which alternate days, also include choreographer Robert Garland's New Bach and Gloria (set to music by Francis Poulenc) and Ulysses Dove's Dancing on the Front Porch of Heaven (set to music by contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt). There's a family matinee performance on April 26.

Andy Warhol's 13 Most Wanted Men and the 1964 World's Fair:
April 27–September 7
Andy Warhol was an up-and-coming artist in 1964. Invited to contribute a piece to the World's Fair that year, he sparked controversy by plastering prints he made of "most wanted" mug shots on the exterior of the fair's New York State Pavilion. The mural was painted over at the direction of fair officials before the event opened to the public, leaving a large silver square as the singular evidence of the artist's only public-art commission. Warhol used the original screens to produce a series of 20 Most Wanted Men paintings, which forms the core of this exhibition. The show marks the 50th anniversary of the fair and celebrates a Warhol work that rubbed the Empire State establishment (namely Robert Moses, Nelson Rockefeller and Philip Johnson) the wrong way.

Brooklyn Flea:
The Brooklyn Flea has grown exponentially since it started five years ago, and now takes place in Fort Greene on Saturdays and in Williamsburg on the East River waterfront on Sundays. Featuring over 100 vendors selling an array of vintage clothing, jewelry, furniture and home décor, as well as gorgeous handmade items and some of the best food in NYC, it’s the perfect way to spend a sunny day this spring or summer. Start the day with a donut from Dough, then sip a homemade cola from Brooklyn Soda Works or cool down with a People’s Pop while you browse the unique vintage and handcrafted treasures. Once you’ve shopped up an appetite, make another stop for brick oven pizza from Pizza Moto’s portable brick oven, a pulled pork sandwich from Porchetta (your dog will get a special treat at this tent, too), or any of the dozens of other equally delectable choices. The vendors vary each week, so be sure to check the vendor layout each Friday at noon for that week's confirmed vendors. For more information, visit brooklynflea.com.
