Guest Speaker Knowledge: Macy's

Happy Monday!

Are you all excited for our Macy's Product Lifecycle panel on Wednesday from 5:30 - 6:30 in the Great Hall? We sure are! In order for you to formulate some interesting questions to make this experience worthwhile, we decided to provide a couple facts about Macy's to get your creative juices flowing! Also, don't forget to bring a copy of your resume. You never know where your next job opp may pop up.

  • Macy's has an executive training program in product development.
    • "Macy's Merchandising Group (MMG) is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, sourcing, producing, selling and marketing Macy’s Private Brands. Some of our Private Brands include I•N•C, Charter Club/Club Room, Greendog, Alfani, Style & Co., Tools of the Trade, American Rag, Martha Stewart, Jenni, Hotel Collection, and The Cellar."
    • The training program will give you the skills to become a Product Assistant.
    • You will also learn about fashion research, color analysis, marketing, merchandising, technology, and much more!
    • You will learn how to communicate with overseas manufacturers about sourcing, fit, fabrics, and samples. 
    • Identify new branding and packaging needs.
    • Contribute business and trend strategy ideas.
    • You must have a bachelor's degree to apply, but all majors are welcome.
    • Attention to detail and Excel skills are critical.
    • You will take classes in Product Life Cycle, Retail Math, Technical Design, Trend and Color Research and Development, Macy's Private Brands Lifecycles, and many more.
Below is a copy of the possible career paths that Product Development can take you through:

 Macy's also has an eight-week paid summer internship for product development. Interns will have the ability to assist in tracking and monitoring the product development process, assist with marketing, and attend classes taught by Macy's product team. At the end of the internship, interns will have a chance to present a business development strategy to Macy's, Inc. executives.
