This World Food Day, on October 16th, Michael
Kors will start his multi-media project to support the initiatives of the Food and
Agriculture Organization. His plan to raise poverty and hunger awareness starts
with the distributing of free t-shirts labeled with the hashtag
#WatchHungerStop. Each person who receives a t-shirt from a store location will
be able to take a picture in a photo booth and have it sent to them (in GIF
form as well!) to post on their personal social media outlets with the same
hashtag. The pictures taken in the store photo booths will then be streamed to
billboards in Time Square where they can be seen, along with the awareness
message, by thousands. The pictures that are shown in Time Square will also be
available on WatchHungerStop.com/Billboard for people to share.
Two New York stores locations will be participating:
Rockefeller Center at 610 5th Ave. and Soho at 101 Prince Street.
Even if you can’t go to a location on that day you can donate to the cause at
any store; on the WatchHungerStop website it says that just “$5 feeds a child
for a month, $15 feeds three children for a month, $25 feeds a child for a full
school semester.” You can also
make a direct donation through the website. This is a great example of a
designer using their recognition to really make a positive difference, and it
is easy for you to participate as well!
