Where We're Shopping: Saffron Rare Threads

Well HELLO THERE dear readers and happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a good start. If you have a moment on break during class or are procrastinating from homework, we have a treat for you! We caught up with Kelly Kirkner, buyer for San Francisco boutique Saffron Rare Threads to talk with her about the ins and outs of being a buyer for an independently-owned boutique!

From the current Saffron Rare Threads collection.

The Society: How did you get started working in fashion?

Kelly Kirkner: I started out working as a make-up artist at a small store in St. Louis. I really disliked doing make-up, so I decided to go work for a women’s clothing store. After that, I just kept selling clothes and managing people who sell clothes. About a year ago I moved out to San Francisco and started working for a local designer in the Financial District.

Where We're Shopping: Emyloo Shoes!

Hello there dear readers and HAPPY MONDAY! Hopefully your day is going to according to plan and a bright week is ahead of you!

As the weather changes, I know many of us are beginning to look for new shoes. Answer me this, dear readers, do you have trouble finding shoes? Perhaps because you have smaller-than-conventional feet? Well aren't you in luck because this post is all about a great new website called EmylooShoes.com.

Owned by Emily Krause, this specialty footwear website caters to women with petite feet, sizes 3 and up! Emily herself is a petite woman, and after years of frustration trying to find shoes for her size 4 feet, she decided to start her own business to cater to women like her!

We caught up with Emily to ask her a few questions about her site. Here's what she had to say!

How did you get interested in selling specialty shoes?

"As a petite woman interested in fashion, I’ve always been extremely frustrated with the lack of options for cute shoes in small sizes. Very few retailers carry shoes smaller than a woman’s size 5 or 6, and the selection is typically minimal if they do. Industry standards keep getting larger and the sad truth is that many stores are phasing out a size 5 altogether. I set out to provide fashionable footwear for a niche market of women with petite feet."

Carine Roitfeld, What's Next?

The most fascinating of interviews with Carine Roitfeld has just appeared on Style.com's Style File blog, and I believe it's the first in-depth article about her future, and where she is going after French Vogue.

Carine, truly one of fashions greatest influencers.
Of change in fashion, here is what she had to say:
"Everything is going so quick now with the Internet, with the blogs. It’s very important. There are two possibilities; either you go very quick to the Internet or you go to magazines and you make it like a collector’s item. [I still think] it’s very normal to have all these fashion weeks and to go to all these shows. Can you show them through movies? I don’t think this is possible. It’s very exciting to be at the runway, to hear the music, to feel the atmosphere, to feel what people like or don’t like. Even if there are too many shows—I would love if there were less shows—I think we have to live with the shows. But after, maybe there is another way to make fashion stories."
In the interview Carine is very honest about what is going on in her life, the magazine, and the fact that she isn't on speaking terms to the new editor Emmanuelle Alt (SHOCKER!)

The end of the interview is really my favorite part, where Carine really opens up about herself,
"People sometimes think I’m very cold, but I’m not. I’m a very shy person. When people know me, I’m not cold; I’m quite a nice person. It’s difficult as the editor of a magazine to be totally yourself because you’re a bit frightened. Now I think I go back where I was ten years ago, so I get younger, which is always good. Younger with dreams and younger with energy. Younger with risk, because now it will be my own risk; it won’t be Vogue’s risk. Always I will be a risky woman. I will keep this legend."
Quite the fascinating inside look on the life of Carine Roitfelt, read the whole article here on Style File!
