The life of an F.I.T. student, hectic! However, we can manage to find time to catch up our lovely readers on some KEY Parisian collections that will be affecting our NYC and American markets come fall.
For the fall 2011 season the Parisian collections have ranged in creativity, inspiration, and skilled work. One trend that seems to be rising from a couple of the power houses though is what I'm interpreting as a post-apocalyptic influence, with women rising as the new queens of the world.

Sarah Burton's Ice Queen collection for Alexander McQueen

The world with the coming of 2012 is a beautiful and violent place... |
For Alexander McQueen fall 2011, Sarah Burton presented a collection that was absolutely stunning. "The Ice Queen and Her Court" was the theme of the show, and presented a remarkably divine and violent collection, in certain pieces you could even see that for the McQueen brand Burton is the best person out there for keeping the DNA as pure as possible.
In this apocalypse trend some of the most important features of the collections are the ranges in color of the blacks, whites, and grays being used. Key details include fur trim, rough hardware, and sheer light fabrics mixed with rougher, sturdy fabrics and leathers.

Thick knits and materials mixed with the sheer fabrics reigned supreme at Chanel. |
"The world is a dark place." Karl Lagerfeld said of his Fall 2011 collection for Chanel. The set for the show really displays this trend of darkness and innovation with a smoldering, and foggy scenery and what looked like volcanic debris surrounding the runway.

The dramatic set at Chanel, definitely a post-apocalyptic world! |
As fashion week comes to an end it will be interesting to analyze what other trends have reigned supreme. And watch our for our Fall 2011 top 10!! |
