Street Style: Skirt Story - Paris Fashion Week

Hi Everyone!
It's Tuesday, which means that our weekly street style post is here! This week, we are focusing on Paris Fashion Week, where the street style was a mix of classy, eccentric, and just plain "what?" One common thread uniting all these styles was skirts. Long, short, tight, or flowing, fashionistas wore them with shirts tucked in, shirts out, and everything in between. Sometimes we had to make a judgement call...skirt? or dress? Either way, we are not trying to skirt the issue! Which look is your favorite?

Alexander McQueen Spring 2013

The inspiration for the Spring 2013 Alexander Mcqueen show was bees: Sarah Burton, the label’s head designer, said she was interested in them because they represent “a matriarchal society where the females rule.”

The theme was obvious in the whole collection, if not just for the clothes, because of the futuristic looking beekeeper hats that each of the models wore. The clothes themselves consisted of very rich fabrics, both in color and pattern. The golden lines of a honeycomb pattern were used in many of the show’s pieces.

The strong proportions and silhouettes of the garments definitely epitomized the Queen Bee sensibility.  A “wasp” waist was created in most of the looks, creating an extremely feminine figure. Accessories like cages and corsets in a warm honey color were worn on the outside of some of the looks, referencing what is used to create the womanly shapes.

Even the eveningwear displayed this sculptural look in its construction. The light material, covered in flowers, flowed over visible corsets and shaping structures.

Did you feel the buzz of the Alexander Mcqueen show?
