WWD Wednesday: Oscar de la Renta Editing List of NYFW Invitees

Oscar de la Renta is taking a different approach to his show this fashion week. In the article he is quoted as saying that he’s already experienced, “huge crowds of people with no direct connection to the clothes.” Now he is looking for a smaller gathering of people who attend solely for a professional purpose. As opposed to last year’s extravaganza of two shows, each with 316 guests, he will have a single showing at his showroom on September 10.

This year the guest list will not exceed 350 people. When asked the reason for the change, De la Renta said he wants those that are invited to be comfortable, because his showroom is a smaller space. He also admitted an even more selfless explanation: he did not want to inconvenience any other designers who had shows on the same day. Ultimately De la Renta poses an interesting question when considering how much of a public scene NYFW has become, “Why have 20 million people with zero connection to the clothes?”

Burberry Prorsum: London Fashion Week

The Fall 2013 was about putting a contemporary twist on the traditional style that Burberry is known for.

A few proper feminine details such as silhouettes that pulled in at the waist and the accompanying kitten heels were kept, (and of course there were plenty of variations of their iconic trench coat) but most of the line’s other aspects were new to the brand.

Many of the pieces were covered in graphic animal or heart prints - towards the end of the show bright red and navy stripes were added to the mix.

These details definitely gave the line a more young feeling; maybe a little too childlike, reminding me of the heart and polka dot printed dresses I would get excited to wear as a kid.
However, the unusual materials used as accents, such as metal and rubber, gave the clothes the edge that transformed them into womenswear.

What do you think of Burberry’s playfully modern style?

Model of the Moment: Bo Develius

The world of modeling is probably the most competitive field in existence, only second to the animal kingdom of the Amazonian jungles. There are few who stick with it through the mental highs and lows. But for those able to prove their talent, passion, and beauty, the payoff of finally gaining recognition and respect can be the sweetest payoff.

Bo Develius by Tomas Falmer for Stockholm

Trend Alert: The Glam of the 60s & 70s Returns!

Don't panic. We aren't talking about the BAD 60s & 70s! Think NYC glamour meets an Italian Twiggy, who lives in Paris. Now isn't that a much better picture!!

Yes it seems as though all over the runways the trends that will be dominating the Fall 2011 season are a return to the 60s and 70s looks with a more glamorous interpretation for today's women.

Pretty Prada, bringing colors back for fall!

The new looks are featuring both the wide leg printed pant, with the bold colors for fall from the era, a time when women dressed up and looked fabulous all the time! I for one am excited to see how the NYC girl will interpret the trends.

The Moment: Buckler On The Streets

This is one of my favorite images from NYFW so far.

Imagine the work that goes into obtaining the permits to have a fashion show on a NYC street!
The Buckler fashion show was held outside the store on Grand street, the perfect mix of fashion editors, and local New Yorkers who happened to be at the right place, at the right time.
