How Big is the Galliano Controversy?

...BIG. John Galliano has gone from suspended from Christian Dior to fired and embarrassed over the alleged racial slurs he's being accused of using many times. The story has officially gone to the NY Times website front and center.

FRONT & CENTER!! GALLIANO FIRED!
In case you aren't familiar with the history of the story:

  • Thursday, Galliano was questioned over making anti-Semitic statements for a separate incident, after being accused by two women.
  • Friday, Dior had suspended Galliano over the incident and claimed it's "zero tolerance policy" as a right to suspend the famed designer. Only a week away from it's Paris Fall 2011 show.
  • Yesterday Britain's tabloid The Sun posted a video on it's website showing John Galliano at a Paris bar making anti-Semitic statements such as “I love Hitler” and “your mothers, your forefathers” would all be “gassed.” Though it was still unclear when the video was taken, in Europe these anti-Semitic statements are completely inappropriate and illegal, considered spreading racial hatred.
  • Finally, today the house of Christian Dior has officially began the process of firing the designer for the statements, only 5 days until the Paris Fashion Week show.

Galliano arrives, with his lawyer, to a Paris police station for questioning.
As the proceeding continue it is important to see how the behavior of fashion's "bad boy" is leading to the decline of his career. Defamation? Or legitimate consequences to unacceptable behavior? It will be up to the French to decide.

Oh how the mighty have fallen!
