Cover Girl: Gwen Stefani

Kind of obsessed with Gwen Stefani in the Elle UK editorial for April 2011!!

Best cover of April so far?
It's nice to see her natural beauty shine through in a great editorial with some fantastic spring 2011 looks! Take a look and head to the editorial after the jump!

Terry Lundgren @ FIT

This evening FIT was honored to have Terry Lundgren, current CEO & President of Macy's Inc. come speak at the Dean's Forum. And boy was this one great person to have the opportunity to listen to!

Introducing Mr. Lundgren before he came on stage, President Brown had this to say about the man, "I want you to listen well, you will never find another executive who cares as much about you." Once President Brown says something like that about an executive, you tend to pay attention.

The presentation began with a couple commercials for Macy's, and a hilarious YouTube launched initiative featuring Martha Stewart and her frat house takeover! (Available for you at the end of this entry)

ALEXANDER WANG MENSWEAR!!

Dreams do come true!!

Come Fall 2011 there is a MAJOR addition to the Alexander Wang brand, ready-to-wear men's! Already proving his brand's strength with the opening of a Flagship store, revamp of his online business, and handling two lines (Namesake and T by Alexander Wang), this addition to the formula is no doubt to be a sure hit! Especially if there are as many men out there that have been waiting like I have for this moment!

Must. Have. This. Collection.

Kate Middleton: Over-saturated?

I am honestly SO OVER Kate Middleton, and this is quite a sad fact considering how excited I was in an earlier post. News on the future royal has recently begun bombarding all of my news and blog feeds, which at first I thought was natural considering the Royal Wedding is next month, but then I asked myself, what is it about her that is so fashionable anyway?

I guess this is fine....for a Kate. (NOT for a princess)

Enter The Cut's Kate Middleton Look Book. It seems as though since the engagement Kate's sense of style has....diminished. Going through the look book there is the occasional beautiful clean cut skirt suit, dress and jacket set, or exaggerated hat. But who exactly is she a style icon for? At times I can see my mother in a few outfits, and often I find myself confusing her with Lauren Conrad, mediocre casual looks at best. Sure she dresses *cute* but since when exactly does "cute" translate into style icon? The fact is that she is NOT a high-fashion style icon, she is the InStyle to the fashion industry's Vogue world. That is something not to be disputed.

Life Lessons: Tyra Banks Interview

New York Magazine has published a fantastic interview with the latest entrepreneur in fashion Tyra Banks. Though extremely successful in her modeling career, along with her ANTM series and Tyra talk show, Tyra highlights the importance of going to school and even talks economics with Amy Odell!

Don't let the looks deceive you, Ms. Banks is a genius!
Now attending the Harvard Business School, Banks speaks on the complications of it all, and even on her circle of study buddies, some billionaires she gives advice to when it comes to branding and marketing!!

Spring Must-Have: Clinique Even Better Moisturizer

Anyone who knows me knows I am OBSESSED with skin-care! And lately I have been getting a lot of compliments on my "natural glow," so I have decided to reveal one of my favorite moisturizers that has been my miracle-creme!
$42.50. Available at Bloomingdales 59th & Lex (I recommend asking for Sarah!)
Clinique's Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer is what's responsible for now glowing skin. A year ago I would have NEVER taken close up pictures, I had bad acne scars and dark spots all over my face from years of picking at my acne from my teen years. Then came a woman in white, a white Clinique coat that is.

Update: Carine Roitfeld

Only a couple months after leaving her position of Editor-in-Chief of the famous Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld has already begun another project! She's been hired by Barney's New York to team up with Creative Director, Dennis Freedman, and work on the stores next ad campaign!

One of the greatest editors of our time.

Designer Spotlight: Gareth Pugh

Gareth Pugh is easily one of our generations more innovative and creative minds in the field of fashion design, and it is a shame that editorials spotlighting him are far and few between.

FIERCE. WOMAN!
Pony Step, the newest in fashion magazines, took it upon themselves to shoot Mr. Pugh's creations and did so very well! A large cast model's the collections, including Danielle Zinaich , Gwen Loos, Pauline Van der Cruysse, Melodie Monrose and Ming Xi. Shot by Terry Tsiolis and stylist Simon Robins.

Model Moment: Eva Herzigova for Harper's UK

We've all seen the trend in models becoming mothers lately, but it's rare to find a model that continues to model while pregnant!! In the past once a model became pregnant, it was like receiving a pink slip. What being said, I applaud the fashion industry for now accepting and featuring this beautiful process of nature.

Wow. Stunning!

Cover Girl: Anna Wintour

The most powerful woman in fashion has been shot by Mario Testino! And no, I am not implying she was injured...

For the April 2011 issue, one of fashion's greatest photographers had the privilege of capturing Anna Wintour for the cover of Wall Street Journal Magazine.

Looking fabulous in a Prada dress & Chanel shades!

Be Inspiried: Fashion Month Street Style

When it comes to comes to dressing for the weeks of fashion week (which I just lump together and call month), one of my favorite parts are not what is being shown on the runway but what the people attending are wearing!

You HAVE to check this out soon!
I've posted several of my favorite street style looks from the shows but now that they are all over we can enjoy the final product of Tommy Ton's shots for Style.com!

Cover Girl: Gaga for i-D Magazine

In light of the recent events I must apologize for being absent for so long! This whole disaster environment outside of F.I.T. and the combination of midterms have created quite the distraction! However, the show must go on.

Continuing her theme of Born-This-Way looking inhuman, one day I'll publish my analysis on her!

Japan: Ways To Help

As news continues to come from Japan since Friday's tragedy, we as Americans, New Yorkers, and F.I.T. students need to know the ways of how to help our neighbors in Japan. Though a high developed nation with one of the best healthcare systems in the world, this is a situation that no one could have predicted. It is as if a major earthquake and tsunami had taken out a part of the United States, what would we do, and what would we want OTHERS to do??

This incredible image from the NY Times puts the mass destruction into perspective, a woman-having lost everything.
Here are a few ways to help the people in Japan, I strongly encourage you all to look through a few and pledge to help in some way, this could have been us!

Remembering The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Tragedy

You think you know everything there is to know about the fashion industry? Think again.
The fashion industry isn’t all glitz and glamour, especially when you know the history of the devastating 9/11 of 1911.
In 1911, a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City killed 146 workers, most of them young, immigrant women.

The devastating results from the fire in 1911.
100 years later, America still struggles with the lessons of the fire.  Recent industrial disasters like the Deepwater explosion, the Massey Mine collapse, and fires in overseas garment factories that produce for American companies show that we still do not know how to ensure safe workplaces.  Other issues we still face today are sexual harassment, crowded and unsanitary housing, powerlessness at work, and invisibility in public debate.

Men, Mix It Up This Spring Please!

A great men's editorial can be difficult to find. Most seem to focus on the extremes of the industry, that is the super innovative and the super traditional. That is what really either shocks me to the point of shutting the magazine, or bores me to the point of tossing it.

GQ Italia however has shot an editorial that I think conquered the challenge of bringing tailoring and sportswear together in  a FUN atmosphere!

I cannot wait for the lovely days of spring to go out in an outfit like this!
Models Danny Arter, Jacob Young, and Sid Charity are shot for the March 2011 issue of GQ Italia. Entitled The Gang, and photographed by Paolo Zerbini.

Trend Alert: The Apocalypse

The life of an F.I.T. student, hectic! However, we can manage to find time to catch up our lovely readers on some KEY Parisian collections that will be affecting our NYC and American markets come fall.

For the fall 2011 season the Parisian collections have ranged in creativity, inspiration, and skilled work. One trend that seems to be rising from a couple of the power houses though is what I'm interpreting as a post-apocalyptic influence, with women rising as the new queens of the world.

Street Style: Paris Fashion Week

As we continue to view the collections coming out of Paris, some of the most exciting and refreshing looks are actually the looks that come from those attending the shows!

Take a look at some of the best street styles shot by Tommy Ton for Style.com or Craig Arend for The Cut Blog:

Anna Dello Russo & a chic Parisian student!

These are definitely my favorite couple of resources to see what our future employers are wearing and how to dress at the shows!

Mugler: VIDEO IS OUT!

Thanks to some tech-savy people obsessed with Lady Gaga there is Mugler video out on YouTube! Check it out below (while it stays up) and read the post before the sassy return of great modeling shown here!

The Update: Galliano

As we all know by now John Gallino has been fired from Christian Dior effective immediately, as a result of accusations he has made anti-Semedic remarks on multiple occasions. To the fashion industry this is a huge loss, and a larger disappointment in a designer known for an incredible imagination!

Bridget Foley, an editor at WWD, has even compared the loss of Galliano to McQueen's death, having this to say:

Trend Alert: The Glam of the 60s & 70s Returns!

Don't panic. We aren't talking about the BAD 60s & 70s! Think NYC glamour meets an Italian Twiggy, who lives in Paris. Now isn't that a much better picture!!

Yes it seems as though all over the runways the trends that will be dominating the Fall 2011 season are a return to the 60s and 70s looks with a more glamorous interpretation for today's women.

Pretty Prada, bringing colors back for fall!

The new looks are featuring both the wide leg printed pant, with the bold colors for fall from the era, a time when women dressed up and looked fabulous all the time! I for one am excited to see how the NYC girl will interpret the trends.

Paris Fashion Week: GAGA FOR MUGLER!!

Ending just minutes ago the Thierry Mugler Fall 2011 show was a fantastic flashback to the days when models had personalities and clothing provided enough energy to get the crowd cheering, and I'm sure Lady Gaga's presence helped as well!

Let me show you some screen captures and the first pictures from the Style.com live feed wall since images are not up just yet, hopefully in the next couple hours high def pictures will detail the imaginative works of Nicola Formichetti, the Creative Director for Mugler.

GIRL POWER!!

Thierry Mugler Show Tomorrow to Premiere New Lady Gaga Track!

If you love our Mama Monster as much as I do then get excited now! Tomorrow's Mugler women's show in Paris will be premiering a new track from the Gaga herself!

As we all know Lady Gaga and Nicola Formichetti have built a close relationship recently and could be called each other's muses. It is not a coincidence that they both released new videos, Gaga promoting her new Born This Way single, and Formichetti promoting the Mugler show for tomorrow.

It's quite exciting to see the house of Mugler revived by such a creative designer, and how the two artists really emphasis the link between the music and fashion industries. Just take a look at the Mugler preview video and the similarities with Gaga's Born This Way video!

How Big is the Galliano Controversy?

...BIG. John Galliano has gone from suspended from Christian Dior to fired and embarrassed over the alleged racial slurs he's being accused of using many times. The story has officially gone to the NY Times website front and center.

FRONT & CENTER!! GALLIANO FIRED!
In case you aren't familiar with the history of the story:
