The Update: Galliano

As we all know by now John Gallino has been fired from Christian Dior effective immediately, as a result of accusations he has made anti-Semedic remarks on multiple occasions. To the fashion industry this is a huge loss, and a larger disappointment in a designer known for an incredible imagination!

Bridget Foley, an editor at WWD, has even compared the loss of Galliano to McQueen's death, having this to say:

"May this not offend those who love Alexander McQueen, but I feel not unlike I did last year when I learned the news of Lee’s death: One of our rare geniuses, a man of unique and irreplaceable talent, has destroyed his career. Coming on the front-end of the New York shows, McQueen’s death cast a dark shadow over the entire season; Galliano’s career crash casts a pall over Paris."
R.I.P. Galliano?
What may be affecting Gallino's reputation even more than the leaked video of his horrendous comments are the reactions from some of the most important people in fashion and pop culture today.
"I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano's comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way." Says Natalie Portman, the new face to Christian Dior Perfumes, one day after winning the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Black Swan.
Portman is not the only one speaking out against the designer, today Karl Lagerfeld also let the public know how "furious" he is,

Who know's if they'll be seen together again!
"It’s a horrible image for fashion, because they think that every designer and everything in fashion is like this. This is what makes me crazy in that story. The thing is, we are a business world where, especially today, with the Internet, one has to be more careful than ever, especially if you are a publicly known person. You cannot go in the street and be drunk — there are things you cannot do... I’m furious with him because of the harm he did to LVMH and [CEO] Bernard Arnault, who is a friend, and who supported him more than he supported any other designer in his group, because Dior is his favorite label. It’s as if he had his child hurt."
Strong words from such an admired figure in the fashion industry.

It has also been reported, though not confirmed, that Gallino has left France for the United States to enter the Meadows rehab center in Arizona. A center that has housed Donatella Versace in the past. For now we will have to keep up with the news in the coming days, especially to see whether the Galliano show goes on or not, and how Dior's show will be affected Friday without the designer present.
