Owned by Emily Krause, this specialty footwear website caters to women with petite feet, sizes 3 and up! Emily herself is a petite woman, and after years of frustration trying to find shoes for her size 4 feet, she decided to start her own business to cater to women like her!
We caught up with Emily to ask her a few questions about her site. Here's what she had to say!
How did you get interested in selling specialty shoes?
"As a petite woman interested in fashion, I’ve always been extremely frustrated with the lack of options for cute shoes in small sizes. Very few retailers carry shoes smaller than a woman’s size 5 or 6, and the selection is typically minimal if they do. Industry standards keep getting larger and the sad truth is that many stores are phasing out a size 5 altogether. I set out to provide fashionable footwear for a niche market of women with petite feet."
"[Finding] suppliers was quite a journey since small shoes are not easy to come by. I began by researching on the internet and immersing myself in the shoe industry. I attended trade shows and scoped out new styles, met craftsmen and made connections. Since then, I have built strong relationships with a number of skilled, well-reputed designers and shoemakers around the globe who specialize in hand-made stylish footwear in small sizes for women."
What are you learning as you work on your business day-by-day?
"Owning a business is the most exciting, gratifying and frustrating thing a person can do. I've learned so [much] about myself since I launched my business last year and continue to learn things everyday. There are so many facets to running a business that you don't even think about, from working with suppliers to marketing and customer service, that it is amazing to see how everything comes together in the end. After years of working office jobs, it's exciting to be able to directly see the fruits of my labor!"
What is your favorite part about working with shoes?
"Who doesn't love shoes? I think [they are] the perfect way to accessorize and jazz up any outfit. In fact, I was always jealous of my friends who did not face challenges while shoe shopping and had closets stacked with shoeboxes. For decades, petite women have been overlooked in the shoe world and have been forced to settle for less-than-fashionable footwear, sometimes resorting to wearing children's shoes. My collection includes [an assortment] of age-appropriate styles ranging from timeless designs to current trends for women of different ages. And of course, now I have finally have the opportunity to build a collection in my own closet!"
