The Weekender Report!

Welcome to November everyone! Now that it is officially the Holiday season (thank you Starbucks red cups for that reminder!) it is time to explore the wonderful things NYC has to offer right before the snow falls! (Well, when the snow falls for real that is...)

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVEN'T MET DAPHNE YET?!
Friday:
  • @ FIT: This is it ladies and gentleman, your LAST CHANCE TO HEAR FROM DAPHNE GUINNESS at the FIT Symposium! Free for all students (WHY WOULDN'T YOU GO?!) this is the chance to hear from the industry's most esteemed icons, including Daphne herself, who is pictured chatting with guests and students and even signing autographs with encouraging messages for the FIT students. (10AM-5PM)

  • @ MOMA PS1:  “September 11”
Check out this fantastic memorial to NYC. While this group show observes the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks with mostly older works, it somehow manages to reflect on that day. The exhibit demonstrates art’s ability to change its meaning depending on circumstance. (Tomorrow - Mon noon–6pm; Thu noon–6pm. Ending: Mon Jan 09 noon–6pm 22-25 Jackson Ave @ 46th Ave)
  • @ NYU: Young New York Band Night! It's first ever NY Band Night! A cause-worthy event to raise money for arts education for NYC students while enjoying an evening of live performances playing a combo of music and famous covers. Line-up includes: Ghost Pal InAshton Pants Velour Basement Batman  Advance Tickets: $20 Tickets at the Door: $30,  2 Tickets + Host Committee Chair: $45 (10PM - 2AM)
You can't go into Eatly and walk out empty-handed, YOU JUST CAN'T!
Saturday:
  •  @ New York Botanical Garden: The NY Botanical Garden's scientists have been scouring the earth since the 1890s in search of unusual plant and fungi varieties. At this permanent exhibition, learn about ten contemporary research projects, as well as techniques they use to gather information, such as DNA fingerprinting. FOR THE SCIENCE NERDS WOO! (Tomorrow - Sun 10am–6pm; Tue - Thu 10am–6pm. Ending: Sat Dec 31 10am–6pm Bronx River Pkwy @ Fordham Rd)
  • @ Eatly: When isn't there something going on at this AMAZING Italian-styled eatery? We just tried their fall pasta + desserts menu and OH MY GOODNESS!! You will die with what they are doing with the fresh fall squash and pumpkins, oh and have you ever tried HOT CHOCOLATE MADE OF PURE MELTED CHOCOLATE?! It is heaven my friends, ENJOY!
  • @ Public Assembly: BOOTIE BROOKLYN: EAST COAST vs. WEST COAST! After a long summer break, BOOTIE -- the greatest mashup dance party in the universe obvs -- is back in Brooklyn! After an epic bi-coastal battle, it's time for Round 2 - as mashup DJs and performers from two coasts take over BOTH sides of Public Assembly! ($10 after 10PM AND SO WORTH IT!)
I can't imagine doing this on a SUNDAY morning...
Sunday:
  • @ All over NYC: NYC MARATHON!!
Yes it's here ladies and gentleman, that race that makes us all feel like COMPLETE BUMS! The running event that tops all running events, about 45,000 people endure a punishing 26.2-mile journey through all five boroughs. Amateurs run alongside professional stars as millions of fans cheer them every step of the way. Marathoners compete not only on two legs but also on prostheses and wheels. (9:40am; starting on the Staten Island side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and finishing at Central Park)
  • @ New Amsterdam Market: Time to eat! This smartly curated local-food bazaar features a lineup of top-notch purveyors like Mast Brothers Chocolate and Sullivan Street Bakery, plus fresh hauls from nearby farms.
It's okay we don't run either, Sundays are our favorite days for a Farmer's Markets though!
And there is your weekender!! Hope you all have a blast!
