Fashion Star

Since Fashion Star's premiere on Tuesday night, people have been buzzing! This is the only fashion show that allows viewers to be able to purchase the pieces seen at the end of the show and in stores the next day! The judges panel consist of fabulous representatives from Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, and H&M! Did you miss the show? Here's your recap!

The show kicked off with a short showing of host Elle Macpherson drop dead sexy intimates collection!  Models criss crossed the stage to motorcycles at each corner! It was the perfect start.  Then it time for the designers to show off their pieces.

The impressive pieces from Elle's line!

Each week the designers are presented with a new challenge and must create three looks based around it. This week's challenge was to pick a signature piece that best represents what they are about.  Throughout the design week they are met with the show's mentors for advice.  The mentors are Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, and John Varvatos, all who are very much involved in the industry! The winner of the competition receives a $6 million collection to be featured at the buyer's stores.

With so much on the line, designers really need to impress the buying panel...originality is key! Those designers who do not get a buy will face elimination.  The first two designers to take the stage were the broke bartender Orly Shani and Edmond Newton.  Orly's sassy Convertible Mini Skirt was exactly what Saks was looking for and she got the buy! Her skirt was one of my personal favorites of the show!

Edmond's signature piece was his Cocktail Dresses.  Eventhough the 3 looks didn't seem to fit the same decade, they still very much impressed Macy's buyer.  His dresses were said to be "perfect for all body types."

Edmond's Cocktail Dress!

Oscar Fierro, the contest's tiniest contestant with the largest personality already stole the heart of Nicole Richie.  While meeting with him during the design week she got a glimpse of the passion in his eyes.  His signature piece, the Butterfly Dress, didn't impress buyers however.  They feared he was more of a personality than a designer.  H&M's Nicole Christi said, "I can't sell personality on a hanger!" I was so surprised that he didn't get a buy because I was dieing to buy one!

As for the rest, only four other designers received buys from the retailers!  While eight designers risked elimination.  Those who did receive buys had their pieces up for purchase right away.  H&M featured Sarah Parrott's Shift Dress and Nzimiro Opta's Sports Jacket in their stores yesterday.  Macy's featured the dreamer Lizzie Parker's Asymetrical Dress and Nikki Poulos' Kimono Caftan in their stores and online!

Mainly the hardest retailer to impress is Saks Fifth Avenue.  He was very hard to please and did not hold any of his opinions back to designers! In the end the bottom 3 designers were Kara Larricks who reconstructs clothes for her designs, the hot Aussie Nicholas Bowes, and shockingly Oscar Fierro!  The mentors, however were able to save one designer in which John Varvatos made clear that they have to "save the dreamers."  Which is just what they did when they chose to save Oscar!

H&M'S DISPLAY FOR THEIR PURCHASES!

In the end, the buyer's decided to send home Nicholas Bowes. He was not a big fan of criticism, especially from the ladies.  After showing his poorly styled pieces, Jessica Simpson tried to offer kind words of advice.  She was stunned that he responded to her criticism with denying that she knew high end fashion!  This didn't make him a fan favorite, sorry Nick!
