Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

The Halloween festivities are fast approaching; and just in time to celebrate the end of midterms. We created a collection of costume ideas for us students who have been too busy to pick one just yet.

Take some Inspiration from your favorite TV shows:

You only have to make a few additions to any cavewoman costume to be Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.

All you need is an Edwardian Style dress and accessories to be a character from Downton Abbey like Lady Mary Crawley.

Bring your own chic updates to the classic schoolgirl costume to be Serena van der Woodsen or Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

A 60s style dress and wig can recreate Megan’s iconic singing scene from Mad Men.

 Movies:

There is a wide selection of flapper costumes that can be accessorized to look like Daisy Buchanan from this year’s The Great Gatsby movie.

One of the cutest couple costumes of the year can be taken from Moonrise Kingdom.

Famous Artwork:

A little make-up and a polka dot outfit can create the perfect pop art by Roy Lichtenstein costume.

Graffiti style paint can be used to make a costume inspired by the street artist Banksy.

You can even turn your outfit into the famous painting of your choice.

Use some of these tricks before you go out to get your treats - Happy Halloween!

Women's Wear Daily Wednesday: Nanette Lepore Designs for New York City Ballet

Nanette Lepore has designed the costumes for Charles Askegard and Georgina Pazcoguin in the performance of the New York City Ballet's “Picnic.”

Charles Askegard and Georgina Pazcoguin in the Nanette Lepore designs
The show premiered tonight at the Joyce Theater in New York. The ballet, which will also be performed Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, is inspired by the 1975 film, “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” and features music by Dmitri Shostakovich with choreography by Brian Reeder of the American Ballet Theatre. This is the first time Lepore has designed costumes for the ballet.

I love that Nanette's designs for the Ballet reflect those of her Spring 2013 RTW collection.  This skirt from her show is almost identical to the silhouette of the skirt the designer made for Georgina.

Trend Report: The Wedge Sneaker

Did you ever wish you could combine the comfort of your favorite athletic shoes with the style of the heels you reserve for going out on Saturday night?  A recent trend that’s been sweeping blogs and street style is just that-- the wedge sneaker.

This awesome alternative to dressing an outfit down just for the sake of your soles was first created by the innovative designer, Isabel Marant. In a recent interview with fashionista.com she explained her inspiration:

“It’s something I did since I was a teenager. I would cut up cork and put pieces of cork into my sneakers because I wanted to look taller. And I always thought about this, what I was doing when I was young, and I thought I should really achieve something around this idea. Sneakers are so comfortable but at the same time it’s not very elegant. To have a little heel in it makes a difference, it gives you legs–I mean, I know women, I am a woman, so I know what we are searching for!”

She does know what we’re looking for-- you can tell just how popular her design has become because the original shoe is selling on ebay for almost $1,000. Luckily there are now some cheaper alternatives because of the great demand for her first design. Here are some of the best:

Athlete Wedge Heel Trainers
Topshop - $75

Studded Sneaker
Zara - $99.90

KG Lexi Wedge Sneaker
ASOS - $175.90

Lleve Sneaker
Steve Madden - $89.95

What do you think of this season’s chic comfort trend?

Dior has named the Hunger Games actress as the new face of the Miss Dior handbag.  Lawrence, who attended the Dior couture show in July, told Women's Wear Daily “It’s such a dream to represent an iconic brand that is synonymous with high fashion.”

Although Jennifer prefers dressing casual, she has said “It’s impossible to be in the industry without getting even the slightest introduction to fashion.”
