Congrats to Ash for being Member of the Week! We asked her a few things today and she let us know that her Thanksgiving plans include going home to Poughkeepsie. Luckly lady, we're sure the  foliage upstate is awesome right now!

Ashley also cites Kourtney Kardashion as her celebrity style icon and told a silly little story about how she went to Barnes & Noble to attend Kourtney and Khloe's book signing for their new novel (i.e. a book we're sure someone else wrote for them!). Ashley waited four hours in line to get a signature from the famous sisters and said Kourtney was a little . . . stony with her. She didn't take it too seriously, though. Good girl!

Rain, rain, go away FIT wants to play! It's so not Chanel weather outside, but the Music Note is here to cheer you up! The tunes that we have today are massive and will surely produce a smile on your face!  I encourage everyone to get off their booties right now & have a mini dance party wherever you are right now!!

Our member of the week Ashley Coico knows the drill.  She shared the song that always makes her happy! The song is Give Me Everything by Pitbull!  And can we blame her? This is one song that should make everyone want to dance.  Even if you don't like the song you can still crack a smile at how Pitbull sings from the side of his mouth!

Diary of a Versace for H&M Shopper

As we all know, this weekend The Very Best of Versace for H&M was released to the American public for sale, and people sure got "VERSASSE" ABOUT IT! (some of us are still recovering from the mayhem, myself included)

 The collection, spearheaded by Donatella Versace, was an homage to infamous brother Gianni Versace who was murdered in 1997, but who's colorful patterns changed the fashion scene forever.
Easily the most anticipated designer collaboration  of the past couple  years, we're happy to report The Society Editor, Rony Patzan, was on the scene the day of the madness all over Manhattan for the release of the collection. And this is the Diary of a Versace for H&M Shopper.
Asked about why NOW was the perfect time for Versace to go mass-market, this is what Donatella had to say, 

"Because of all the young people who have decided to wear Versace vintage. Lady Gaga, for instance. And there is also a lot of homage to Versace happening in fashion. It is a very attractive homage, but this is the real Versace, and I think they should wear the real one. This is fashion right now. It’s not about being the same. It’s not about being safe. It’s about daring, and it’s about making people dream, too. There are not many things to dream about in the world right now, but fashion is one of them."

I'm happy to report, I got my hands on some of the incredible pieces from the collection!

Holiday Style Guide: What to Wear to Thanksgiving Dinner!

Hello readers! The holidays are quickly approaching and I figured many of you are freaking out what to wear to Thanksgiving dinner (a.k.a. The Greatest Meal of the Year). I know I am! To wear my leopard booties or to not wear them? That is the question!

Here are a few silly scenarios you may find yourself in, and a complete guide for what to wear so that you can look your best stuffing your face. Yeah, I went there.


Scenario #1: Dinner with Your Estranged Family
We all know how this works. Every ten years or so you have to go to dinner at a distant relative's home (because your mother can only put them off for so long before it's rude to not go) and fake enjoyment among their taxidermied cats and frilly, dusty curtains.

To ward off the eerie stares of your mother's-second-cousin-twice-removed's stuffed cats, slap on some sunglasses (a la Mary Kate), pile on a shawl (to protect your skin from dust!) and work some faux fur (to blend in!). We suggest wrapping your hair in a stylish faux fur hat. Because, really, if you're going to dining amid 70's decor, what's the point of doing your hair?

Class work bringing you down again?  Well, have no fear The Music Note is here to get you out of the Tuesday blues.  Last week was completely dedicated to Drake after his new album had been leaked.  This week I'm happy to say FIT students are still in rap mode, but this time it's all about college rappers! Yes, thanks to Asher Roth these young studs are becoming more known in the music industry! Check it out!

Taylor, a third semester Textile Design major, informed us of her love for these rappers. When asked what she was listening to she was happy to share this song.  Me First by T Mills!  Not only is Taylor addicted to the song but she also finds the rapper hot! & If you take a chance to look, he actually is quite good looking! What We're Reading: A MODEL A WEEK

MODELS MODELS MODELS!! There are plenty of reasons we're all obsessed with them, but too often we don't get too much of an intimate feel for them. It's just one ad campaign every season and a couple editorials in foreign print magazines we tend to miss.

There is a solution to this issue though, or a easy way to stalk gorgeous and talented models, whichever way you may think of it. A Model A Week is a fabulous Tumblr blog posting exactly what the title suggests, only one model for an entire week.

That's ok this week you have an excuse.  Versace for H&M took the runway this week and everyone was too consumed with the fabulosity that I will admit it was hard to hear about anything else! Now that you're out of the daze, here's what you missed!

Who has seen Marc Jacobs ad campaign for his new perfume OH LOLA? Honestly, how can you miss it?  It can be seen in every fashion magazine across the world.  (Well if you haven't, that's ok here it is pictured above.)  The ad features Dakota Fanning in a sweet pink dress holding an enlarged bottle of the perfume.  Looks innocent right?  The British Advertising Standards Authority beg to differ!

The Ralph Lauren Fashion PR team is looking for interns for their men's, women's, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, children's, celebrity, Denim & Supply and American Living brands. PR interns are responsible for overseeing the organization of fashion closets, supporting the fashion team by checking  samples in/out for editorial and celebrity requests, conducting competitive analysis research, and supporting the fashion team. Our first music fan was none other than first year FMM major, Michelle! She was put on the spot when we asked what song she's obsessed with, but then it clicked.  Her obsession this week is Headlines (They Know) by Drake.  Drake's has been having a pretty big year and it looks like it's his day amongst FIT ladies!

As the holidays approach we're finding ourselves craving more and more of those signature treats that make us feel right at home! Dash of Dan is a deliciously charming cooking and personality blog by Daniel, a native New Yorker, who's passion for sweet treats shines through in this adorable blog!

The Society: How did you get started working in fashion?

Kelly Kirkner: I started out working as a make-up artist at a small store in St. Louis. I really disliked doing make-up, so I decided to go work for a women’s clothing store. After that, I just kept selling clothes and managing people who sell clothes. About a year ago I moved out to San Francisco and started working for a local designer in the Financial District.
